Northeastern Illinois University makes every effort to extend financial
assistance to qualified students in need of funds to complete their education.
The office of Financial Aid, located in DBL-200, (at extension 2900) offers
assistance in meeting these expenses through loans, grants, scholarships,
and student employment programs. Basic information about aid sources most
commonly available to Northeastern students is listed below.
Application Deadline
All applications for financial aid should be on file in the Office of Financial
Aid by April 1 for priority consideration for the following September.
How to Apply for Aid
Applicants who wish to be considered for financial aid must complete the
following forms:
1) The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and a Northeastern
Illinois University Financial Aid application.
2) Financial aid transcripts from all previously attended colleges/universities
must be on file in the Office of Financial Aid.
3) The Illinois Monetary Award and the Pell Grant may be applied for directly
on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
4) Only those students selected for a review process, called verification,
must provide a signed photocopy of their Federal Income Tax Form for previous
year(s). In addition, they may also be requested to provide a signed photocopy
of their parent's or spouse's income tax form.
No aid awards become final until the students have been admitted to a degree
program at the university.

Grants
Federal Pell Grant
Open to undergraduate students who are enrolled in a degree program. Must
be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen. Maximum award for academic
year 1998-99, Illinois resident $3,000* ($1,500 per semester) for full-time
enrollment.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
Open to undergraduate students in a degree program who show need. Limited
availability to those who show need beyond that provided by other federal
aid programs.
Illinois Monetary Award (ISAC)
Need based award open to all undergraduates who are residents of Illinois
and who are enrolled for at least six credit hours in a degree program.
Loans
Federal Perkins Loan
Need based loan open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full
or part-time in a degree program. Annual loan amounts may not exceed $3,000
for undergraduate or graduate students. Long-term repayment.
Federal Stafford Loan
Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full or part-time.
Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen and be a resident of the
state of Illinois. Long-term repayment.
Student Employment
Federal Work/Study Employment
Open to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled full or part-time in
a degree program. Students must show need. On or off-campus employment is
arranged through the Office of Student Employment.
Scholarships
Note: Other scholarships are available. Contact the Office
of Admissions and Records.
Northeastern Illinois University Talent & Merit Scholarships
Art, Music, Dance, Honors, Publication, Leadership, Theatre Limited
Availability.
Merit scholarships are available from the College of Arts & Sciences,
College of Education, and College of Business & Management.
Northeastern also has some need-based tuition waivers available.
Special Education Scholarship
Open to undergraduate and graduate students who have expressed an intent
to take courses in preparation for teaching special education.
Illinois General Assembly Scholarship
Each member of the Illinois General Assembly is authorized to award the
equivalent of two, 4-year scholarships annually to his/her constituents.
ROTC Scholarships
Scholarships are available for students participating in the Air Force or
Army ROTC programs.
Students may enroll in the Air Force ROTC program through the Illinois Institute
of Technology, Military Science Building, 3201 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago,
Illinois, telephone 312/567-3525.
Students may enroll in the Army ROTC through the University of Illinois
at Chicago, 312/996-3451. |
