"The true artist sees the harmony, the wholeness, the tendencies toward perfection in things everywhere."

    Guggenheimer, Creative Vision 1950

........................................................................... What is Art? It is the response of man's creative soul to the call of the Real. -Rabindranath Tagore, Indian Poet (1861-1941)

Some art history by David Caftori, my father, a great artist.

    You may now view:

I started painting during my year in Paris, 1991-92, being influenced by my surroundings, my father's visit (an artist), and having so much free time on my hands.

My art is mostly abstract, mixed media (markers, pastels, chalk) on paper and is distinguished by the very rich palate of colors I use.

In 1994 I started sculpting in stone using pneumatic tools in addition to painting.

During my sabbatical year (1995-1996) I moved to sculpting figures in clay and after having finished my first piece in beech wood using mostly a cheasel and hammer, I created my third alabaster stone solely by hand.

I also learned intaglio printing and monoprint. My etchings are very different than the original Parisian works.

The following are a few of my works of art:

Marble sculpture done this past summer 1998. I don't plan on touching marble after this one. Too hard.
Woman in acrylic on canvas, 1998
My art exhibit, September 1998, at the Bean Counter Cafe in Evanston. With a few friends.

    MelissaMarkers on paper, 1998
    CatsMarkers on paper, 1998
    To life! (lehaiim) Markers, 1992

If you have Real Audio you may see a video of my art as part of a group exhibit by sculptors from the Omri Amrani's studio, Nov. 1994, downtown Chicago.

My art along with my father's and daughter's was exhibited at LaSalle Talman Bank on 5300 Dempster in Skokie, during Feb. '97.

Another exhibit took place at the library of Northeastern Illinois University from October 6th through the 25th, 1997.

This was my dream as a child and teenager---to act. I guess being a professor is not that far from acting...only now we are trying to leave the pedestal and let the students do the work...

Anyhow, I've been on two musical comedies recently with minor roles, but loved every minute of it.

  • Bells are Ringing, was performed on March 13, 15 and 16, 1997.
  • Radio Days, 1998
  • 45th and Broadway, on April 29, May 1st and 2nd, 1999.
  • and even an extra in the movie Driven coming up March 2000. See if you can find me anywhere near Lou Mitchel restaurant.

I am not an avid sports fan. I usually get involved in a sport activity if it has a social side benefit or a meditative edge. I almost sky dived recently, but ... it was too windy. It will happen soon.
