Introduction

Welcome to the Hidatsa language program webpage. The goal of the site is to support the Hidatsa Language Program in Mandaree, North Dakota to produce fluent speakers of Hidatsa. Hidatsa, like many Native American languages, is endangered of being lost. We, at the Mandaree Hidatsa Language Program believe that this cannot be allowed to happen. It is the responsibility of every member of the Ft. Berthold community to ensure that this does not happen. This is our shared responsibility. This must be our commitment to our children.

The Hidatsa language program not only teaches the Hidatsa language, but it also focuses on our culture and history. Knowing where we come from and why we're here helps build student pride and self-esteem. It is important that children learn their role in the world and what is expected of them at an early age. These values include honesty, integrity, responsibility, and hard work. If we as a people want to keep our language alive, we must all help in this undertaking.

Thank you very much.
