1. Why Is This Assignment a Part of This Course?

There are two purposes to the Music on the Net Assignment:
One: Internet/Computer Literacy
Completion of this assignment will prove that you have the computer skills to search the web and find important music resources.
Two: Internet Music Literacy
Completion of this assignment will help us understand more about the power of music on the World Wide Web.

2. What Is It?

The "Music on the Net Assignment" is a "module" or "unit" for this course, which you must do by the assigned date. Here's what you must do:
  1. find a music site on the World Wide Web using any web search engine site.
  2. go to the Music on the Net Page.
  3. add your music site's URL, name, comments, and rating.
  4. you will use your quiz login and password to access the Music on the Net Contribution Form.
  5. you must "sign" your contribution with your "MCO Signature". This is just a fun name you use to identify yourself, without having to post your full name on the web.

3. Where Do I Find the Materials?

All of the materials you will need are on the World Wide Web. Here are some important locations of resources:
  • The page itself is found at http://www.neiu.edu/~jalucas/links/. Take a look there, first, and see what others have contributed. Also, you want to make sure the site you have found isn't on there already.
  • There are lots of web search engines. A listing of them may by found at Selected Internet Search Engines.
  • There are lots of music web sites on the MCO Links Page. Take a look at those sites, first, to see the types of sites that are suitable. If you find a site from this page, it is OK, but I'd prefer you'd go out on the web and find a "new" site.

    4. When Is It Due?

You must do this assignment by the end of the first month of the class. See the Calendar for the exact date.
