Telecommunications directs and coordinates the installation,
repair and removal of telephones and related equipment at the University.
Requests for new installations, telephone moves, and changes should be directed in writing to the Telecommunications Manager by a department head stating the need and justification for the request.
Long distance calls can be placed by individuals authorized to have access codes. Each authorization code user receives monthly reports for verification of calls made. This report must be signed and returned. Any personal calls made must be circled on the sheet and returned with a check payable to Northeastern Illinois University. The cost of these calls will be included on the department/unit monthly telephone voucher. Personal calls that are reimbursed by these individuals will be shown as a credit on the following month's telephone voucher. Request for codes for faculty and other personnel must be made in writing by a Department Head.
Each month Department/Unit Managers will receive a telephone voucher which will summarize telephone usage and costs for that billing period. Detailed usage reports are available upon written request by the Department/Unit Manager. It is mandatory that Department/Unit Managers or their designee review Telephone Voucher(s) and report any discrepancies, problems, etc. to Telecommunications at extension 4300 within three working days. Otherwise, at the close of business on the third day, Telephone Vouchers will be processed for payment.
The central telecommunication budget will be responsible for costs of telephone instruments and installation of service. Staff, programmatic, and space/office changes and/or alterations are initiated at the President's or Vice President's level. Costs of telephones and installation of service associated with theft, and department initiated changes in phone locations, remain the fiscal responsibility of individual departments/units.
Employees are personally responsible for equipment lost or damaged through gross negligence. The loss will be reimbursed by direct payment or payroll deduction.
To report a problem or request repairs to a telephone, contact the Telecommunications at extension 4300.
Campus telephone directories are provided to all University employees.
