Upon termination of employment, all faculty, administrative and civil service employees who earn annual leave shall be compensated for any accumulated leave in a lump sum payment to be issued one pay period following the payroll covering the last day of service. Further, unused sick leave earned between December 31, 1983, and January 1, 1998, is also payable the first pay period after termination at 50%.
Withholding taxes for this lump sum payment will be calculated at the regular rates unless a flat rate has been requested on W4 tax withholding cards filed in Payroll by the employee prior to the last regular payday.
On termination, payroll calculates the remaining time for which the employee should be paid as well as any outstanding vacation time for which the employee should be reimbursed. Payroll then calculates the dollar amount due the employee. The check will be disbursed in accordance with the instructions on the employment clearance certification form. Checks not picked up within the next pay period should be mailed to the employee by the terminated employee's department.
Payroll is located in E 225, extension 5195.
