The role of the project director involves the business management in addition to the programmatic aspects of grant activity.  Properly executed, this activity should insure that adequate progress is being made towards meeting the goals of the grant.  The project director is responsible for:

 
  1.  Managing the grant and developing a meaningful work plan, including justification of resource and progress evaluations.
  2.
 

 

Implementing the terms and conditions of the agreement with the funding agency, administering the grant from award to closeout, serving as the organizational representative and single contact person with the funding agency for all management aspects of the agreement, particularly as the point of organizational entry for legally binding documents.
  3. Keeping abreast of changes in policies, procedures, or requirements of the program and continuing to advise program staff of grant requirements.
  4. Coordinating with the University Controller the submission of required financial and performance reports.
  5. Obtaining approval on account applications, signature cards, and initializing budgets for the project.
  6. Monitoring grant budgets to preclude overspending and requesting budget changes as necessary.
  7. Coordinating the hiring of personnel with the appropriate offices on a timely basis to insure prompt payment of salaries and wages.
