Course #: PSYC - AGED 455L

NORTHEASTERN ILLLINOIS UNIVERSITY

M.A. in Gerontology Program

5500 N. St. Louis Avenue, Chicago IL 60625

FOR SPRING 2009

FULLY ON LINE COURSE

This is a graduate-level course on the topic of aging and cognition, but can be taken by undergraduate students who have at least a 3.0 undergraduate GPA. In addition to the M.A. in Gerontology program, this course can be used to satisfy the elective course requirement for the Psychology major or be an elective for either the Psychology or Gerontology minor.

Are you interested in working with an aging workforce (e.g., being a Corporate Gerontologist), or simply learning about your own aging in work and retirement? The mean age of the general U.S. population will continue to rise for the next 30-35 years, and the extension of the work role will be a consequence for many individuals.

More and more older adults, especially women and minorities, are deciding to remain or re-enter the workforce in later life at an unprecedented rate.  Thus, it is imperative that professionals in various fields (e.g., human resource managers) be aware of aging workforce issues.  On a personal level, each person needs to understand aging within his/her own career plans.

This on-line course will cover these topics and more!
