AGHE
2007 - PORTLAND, OR. - MARCH 1-3
The
2007 Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) Conference
was held in Portland, Oregon on March 1-3, 2007. The conference
theme
in 2007 was "Mentorship - the Dyad, Triad, and Beyond." An NEIU
research community team across academic department/programs (Early
Education, Psychology, and Gerontology) presented research on aging
portrayals in books, drawings and spontaneous play behavior.
Presentations were a symposium entitled "Aging Portrayals in Children's
Picture Books, Drawings and Play Behavior: A Symposium of
Social
Learning Implications for Intergenerational Understanding." The
research teams involved both undergraduate and graduate students from
each program/department. The students in the associated event
photos
are Lisa Krause, a Psychology and
Art Major, who presented her drawing
research. Cristine English,
B.A. (December 2006 graduate) presented in
the symposium as well as her poster entitled "Intergenerational
Learning and Diversity Portrayals in Children's Picture Books."
Lorilene Cuevas, B.A. and
Gerontology Minor also presented in both the
symposium as well as presented her poster entitled "Portrayals of Older
Women in Children's Picture Books and Associated
Intergenerational
Learning/Impact." Ms. Cuevas' poster was awarded the AGHE Sigma
Phi
Omega (SPO) Presidential Award for her poster presentation.
